The Practice Run
Saturday was a busy day. I had to stay close to home and wait for the inspection of the Pacifica to be complete. While we were waiting, Dawn, Koben and I went to the Grove City outlet mall. Dawn got the shopping done that she needed, we hung out there for a while and then headed back to Franklin. On the way home, we got the call that the Pacifica was ready. So, we stopped and picked it up.
By the time we got home, it was getting into the late afternoon and I was not prepared for a long ride. I instead decided to travel north on the (boring) Justus Trail as a practice run with the new bike. I say “boring” only because I have not challenged myself to find something of interest on this trail. I have never followed it all the way to Oil City. So, I have only myself to blame for calling it “boring.”
As I rode out, I was more concerned with the wireless computer and the gear shifting accuracy than anything else. I was also trying to get a feel for the seat and handle bar height as well as the comfort level of the seat. That all was an ongoing project, but I still find time to snap a couple of photos of the river.
I also stopped at rest stop by the river to get a picture of a memorial “rock” for James A Seely. I have yet to figure out who that is, but will be tentatively grateful to him for whatever he had done to deserve such an honor. I also stopped by to check out the River Ridge Farm. The farm and mansion were occupied by US Senator Joseph P. Sibley who acquired considerable fortune from the early oil industry. I did not take any pictures of the many oil wells that line the trail, but there were many and some have been abandoned for over 100 years.
At only 12 miles, this night was a short ride, but a good one. I worked out some kinks in the bike setup, including the computer, and was ready for a longer ride on Sunday.
