The New Bike
As I had stated in my last post, I was researching a new bike. I went to the Schwinn website and started looking for what I needed. I had no idea what type of bike to get. I did not even know what size to get or even that I could get different sizes. But, I did a lot of research between the Schwinn website, Google and Amazon. By the middle of the week, I knew what I wanted and needed.
I found a dealer in New Castle from the Schwinn website. I found the website for bike shop, Bicycles and More, and saw that they were both open until seven o’clock on Fridays and had a year end clearance. What more could I ask for? I would head there after work on Friday and see if they had the bike I needed.
I stopped at the bike shop and was surprised to find out that they did not carry Schwinn bikes. After a moment of anger, I set my focus back on to finding a bike. I needed a comfortable seat, good brakes, an XL frame and great gear shifting. They had a model of the Giant bike brand that gave me all of that and at a price less than the Schwinn’s that I was looking for. I took a test ride and confirmed with the salesman that it would fit into the back of the Caliber. There was nothing left to do but buy the bike.
I could not wait to ride it, but it was late on Friday night and we had to get the Pacifica up to the mechanic’s for inspection on Saturday. I brought it home and set it inside the house. At first, I had locked it up on the front porch, but soon realized it had the quick release wheels and decided that while the frame of the bike was secure, the wheels were not.
I went out that night and got the wireless computer for it. I had never had anything so high tech on my bikes. Back in the 1980’s, it was all analog speedometers and odometers, so this was a major improvement. I got it installed and tested out, but once again, it was late on a Friday night. I would have to wait until tomorrow to head out and truly test is all.
